Monthly Edition #24
Nijmegen, NL 🇳🇱
The Party for the Animals Nijmegen of the Netherlands, has been advocating for the ban of meat ads for years.
It finally happened.
They also introduced the Plant Based Treaty to the city, which brings even more major changes:
No expansion of intensive livestock farming and slaughterhouses. No more deforestation for grazing/animal feed production.
Active promotion of a shift to a plant-based food system.
Reforestation, ecosystem restoration, and landscape restructuring.
This is a two-in-one victory and a big leap towards a pro-Vegan future!

1. Wild Animals Banned from Traveling Circuses
Washington, US 🇺🇸
SB 5065 was signed into law. It bans the use of elephants, big cats, bears, and primates from traveling circuses in Washington.
It will take more time to legislate against the cruelty in food. Still, most people are recognizing it in entertainment. We know both are not needed, but this win is a big step to ending animal exploitation everywhere!
— DL
2. Bullfighting Banned
Michoacán, MX 🇲🇽
The animal rights group Todos Somos Animales has been hard at work for animals. Their Movimiento México Sin Toreo has won to get bullfighting banned in a 7th Mexican state!
“By stepping away from this tradition, Michoacán is advocating for a future that embraces cultural evolution and respects animal welfare.”
— Claudia Edwards, Campaign Director, Humane World for Animals Mexico
3. Animal Testing Gets Phased-Out
US 🇺🇸
The FDA and EPA want animal testing to be the exception, not the rule.
The FDA is replacing animal testing to develop drugs with more human-relevant methods. They're also incentivizing the transition by prioritizing the review of studies that use non-Animal methods!
Many animals are currently used to test the safety of pesticides and herbicides. The EPA aims to phase out animal testing by 2035. There is also a commitment to retire some of the test animals as soon as this year!
A strong 86% of Americans believe in the replacement of animal testing. The University of Arizona is already ahead, replacing animals in surgery training!
4. Plant-Based Nutrition Mandates
CH 🇨🇭 + ES 🇪🇸
The Swiss are eating too many animals, and too few plants. Their government says that more diet-related diseases and emissions mean change is necessary. To do so, the new Swiss nutrition strategy for 2025-2032 puts plant-based diets in the spotlight.
Noelia Estraviz is the president of the Association of Families United for a School Vegan Menu (FEUMVE). The group has fought for Vegan rights in Spanish schools for years. This month, they finally got their first win: the Healthy and Sustainable Cafeterias Decree.
The law protects children's right to a 100% plant-based menu in schools. If this can't happen, schools must find ways to chill and warm food that students bring from home!
5. Play Catan the Vegan Way
Tabletops everywhere 🌍
We all know Sheep aren’t resources, they’re individuals.
PETA acknowledges this, and gives us a way to enjoy Catan without Sheep: hemp. An animal-free alternative to wool, Hemp is used for clothing, rope, and most importantly, in Catan. Plus, you can get literal VEGAN VICTORY points with this expansion!
I’ll trade you two hemp for one brick? I know you need that settlement…

6. Plant-Based Default at 200 More Hospitals
US 🇺🇸
Since 2022, Greener by Default has teamed up with 131 Sodexo-led hospitals. The duo now offers plant-based meals as the default option! Now, an additional 200 hospitals are set to transition by 2026!
The new hospital menus place nutritious plant-based meals as the default option for at least one meal daily.
Quick math for animals: If just 10% of the 290,000 meals Sodexo serves to patients per day shift from meat-based to plant-based, the company could spare over 1 million individual animals per year (conservative estimate).

7. Famous Vegan Diner Closes...Then Reopens!
London, UK 🇬🇧
Like a phoenix, Earthling Ed’s Unity Diner rises from the ashes.
Unity Diner shut down two months ago, citing rising costs. After the closure, the restaurant and its sanctuary got big donations from Vegans. The 7-year-old Vegan restaurant will reopen after talks with their landlords and an investment from a co-founder!
Tested and approved by Dani Linavi, VEGAN WORLD NOW founder and Vegan Registered Dietitian Nutritionist.
🥗 High Protein Vegan Caesar Pasta Salad by That Vegan Babe
You can also try replacing the chickpeas with air-fried tofu (I use fava bean tofu for less calories and higher protein), and replace the broccoli with spinach for a more salad like experience. This is how I eat it!

8. Dairy-Free Whole Milk Identical to Dairy
California, US 🇺🇸
Eclipse created Non-Dairy Whole Milk by isolating proteins from peas and chickpeas. This process helps mimic the molecular structure of whole milk. It is shelf-stable and will target coffee shops, smoothie bars, bakeries, and cafes.
No Cows. No compromises.
9. India’s 1st Cultivated Trout Fillet
Mumbai, IN 🇮🇳
Biokraft Foods uses its own 3D bioprinting with Rainbow Trout cell lines. This process transforms the cells into whole-cuts with the same structure and nutrition!
“…Launching India’s first cultivated trout product [is] a breakthrough that preserves our precious aquatic biodiversity and brings cleaner, cruelty-free fish to the plate.”
— Kamalnayan Tibrewal, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Biokraft Foods.
10. World’s 1st Palm Oil from Fermented Algae
California, US 🇺🇸
Conventional palm oil production leads to deforestation and excessive emissions. It also struggles with high costs and requires a lot of labor. Checkerspot offers a clean and scalable alternative to conventional agriculture: microalgae fermentation.
“By leveraging microalgae fermentation, we’ve created a scalable solution that addresses both environmental concerns and the supply chain vulnerabilities associated with the production of tropical fats such as high-oleic palm oil.”
— Scott Franklin, Co-Founder and Chief Scientific Officer, Checkerspot

11. 150+ Dogs Rescued from Dogfighting
South Carolina, US 🇺🇸
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) teamed up with local law enforcement to rescue 150+ Dogs. The Dogs had significant scarring, and were likely involved in Dog fighting. Now, they’re receiving critical care and are free.
12. Vegan Ad Showcasing Hypocrisy Replicated
France 🇫🇷 + Vegan companies everywhere 🌍
La Vie released an impactful ad with a humorous twist. It shows someone eating ham in front of a rescued Piglet, Leon. Now, La Vie is inviting other Vegan brands to re-create the ad with their food product and other rescued animals.
Vegan companies are accepting the invitation.
Beyond Meat remade the ad by eating their burger in front of a rescued Calf, Barbara. THIS™, Heura, and Juicy Marbles are expected to join in on the impact!
“This campaign was never meant to stay ours. It’s a visual that makes people stop, smile, and think.”
— Romain Jolivet, Chief Marketing Officer, La Vie
13. All Fin Whale Hunts Cancelled
IS 🇮🇸
Hvalur hf, an Icelandic company, and the last whaling company on Earth, has decided not to hunt Fin Whales this year.
Why?
Animal advocates around the world are speaking out against whaling's cruelty. As a result, global demand for whale meat has dropped.
Can’t argue against supply and demand, baby. Keep reading for a similar VEGAN VICTORY.

14. Fur Industry Drastically Declining
CN 🇨🇳
China has the biggest fur industry in the world. However, from 2023 to 2024, fur production businesses in China dropped from 18,053 to 10,707.
41% of China’s fur producers went bankrupt.
Why?
Opposition to fur farming is increasing around the world. Europe, Japan, New Zealand, and parts of North America, have been implementing restrictions, phase-outs, and bans. This decrease in demand has lead to a massive decrease in supply, and the oppressors can’t afford it!
15. All Locals Outreached and 3 Join Protest
Brompton, UK 🇬🇧
There are 2,400+ Cows trapped in Lowfields Farm. Activists reached every single door, every street, every corner, and every letterbox to leave a leaflet exposing this reality of dairy.
It paid off.
Three locals were shocked by what they read in the leaflets and heard from the activists. So, they decided to join the protest at the farm!
The protest was then covered by BBC North Yorkshire, Greatest Hits Radio, and more. The message against dairy is now in living rooms, on airwaves, and in headlines.
This win is a big light against the darkness of the dairy industry!
