Hey, teammate! ✊
If you’re new here, my name is Dani. I’m a 5 year Vegan and animal rights activist who is no stranger to a lack of time, cynicism, and Vegan burnout. I’ve been writing the VEGAN VICTORIES MONTHLY to inform and uplift myself by curating all of this month’s most positive Vegan news from around the world. Turns out, other people like it too.
Even though this month’s is a short one, I hope it uplifts you like it does for Cheryl and I.
Enjoy! 👇️
🇲🇽 Mexico City Bans Killing Bulls
With 61 votes in favor and only 1 in opposition, Mexico City has voted to ban the stabbing and killing of Bulls inside or outside bullfighting rings. Of course, we settle for no less than an outright ban of using non-Human animals for entertainment, but this is major progress for Bull’s rights!
We’re going in the right direction. Just look at what Mexico City’s head of government, Clara Brugada, had to say:
"The spectacle of blood cannot be justified as art or tradition. Culture evolves, and we have the responsibility to transform it in favor of animal welfare.”
Damn right!
Plus, in Tuscon, AZ, US, a traditional Bull-Run festival was cancelled. Even more Bulls spared from needless exploitation!
🦒 Austin, TX, Gets US’ 1st Holographic Zoo
The future is a VEGAN WORLD, and in that future, Humans still love to see other animals! One way we can see other animals without exploiting them would be by using…holograms.
Yes, holograms! Named one of Time Magazine’s “Best Inventions of 2023,” Axiom Holographic’s, Zoocade, is an innovative 60-foot tunnel where visitors wearing 3D glasses can see elephants, giraffes, hippos, and dinosaurs, without contributing to animal cruelty! Zoos are becoming more obsolete every day.
There are Zoocades in Australia, China, Canada, and now, the US!
Big future-forward win for non-Human animals.
📅 63% of VegPledge Participants Remain Vegan
Animal Outlook released their 2024 behavior change report, which showcases the power of the VegPledge: 63% of VegPledge participants pledged to remain Vegan for life after pledging to be Vegan for a day, week, or month.
This VEGAN VICTORY is only possible due to thousands of volunteers advocating to make the switch. You can be one of them!
☕ Another Major Coffee Chain Drops Milk Tax
Just four months ago, Starbucks dropped their Vegan milk up-charge. Then, last month, Scooter’s and Dutch Bros did the same, and I said “your move, Dunkin’.”
Then last month, Dunkin did!
This month, Peet’s Coffee followed suit and dropped the plant milk tax. Except, it took the Beatles’ Paul McCartney and almost 40,000 Vegan activists to tell them to do so…
There’s only 7 major chains in the US left. Let’s keep up the pressure for more of these easy VEGAN VICTORIES!
🏅 10-Year Vegan Breaks Squat World Record
Sahy Malaga, Belgian power lifter, broke the world record for squat in the M1 63 kg division with a massive 3x body weight 182.5 kg (401.5 lbs) squat! This was just one of eleven records at National level or above she broke that day – including the M1 European record for a total in competition!
I wonder, what does a 10-year Vegan champion like her eat?
”I also eat lots of protein smoothies, kidney beans, lentils, chickpeas, black beans, tempeh, seitan, quinoa, bulgur and seasonal fruit and veggies.”
Just like the rest of us!
Let’s go!!
🧈 Butter Can Now Be Made With Captured Carbon
No animals harmed. No plants harvested.
And yet, butter can still be made! By using a proprietary fermentation-based process, a US company called Savor converts captured carbon dioxide (CO₂), green hydrogen (GH₂), and methane (CH₄) into structured fats (like butter and palm oil), without relying on animals or plants.
Wow.
Check out Savor’s website on how they do it - it’s beautiful, and will probably make you hungry!
🥓 Cultivated Pork Fat Approved for Sale in US
In light of certain US states doing all they can to ban these products, companies like GOOD Meat and Upside Foods are doing all they can to quickly move past and through this.
This month, one other company joins them: Mission Barns.
Mission Barns received regulatory approval from the US Food and Drug Administration, and plans to rollout their hybrid plant protein + cultivated pork fat products at Sprouts Farmers Markets across the US!
This will be the first time cultivated meat will be sold in a US supermarket, and the first time cultivated pork will be sold in the world!
A VEGAN WORLD is coming fast.
🤝 Vegans and Feminists Unite for Women’s Day
Animal Justice Project found that 52% of people do not know that dairy cows are impregnated annually to enable milk production, and 83% are unaware that calves are often separated from cows within 24 hours of birth.
These are feminist issues that have been hiding in the dark, and Vegans around the world took to the streets on International Women’s Day to shine a light on them.
Speciesism.wtf founder Stephanie Lane coordinated the “Milk is not Human(e)” protest across across 14 UK cities and international locations including New York, Mumbai, Sydney, Paris, Copenhagen, and Berlin. The protest had partially topless women wearing makeshift breast-milking machines to highlight the inherently anti-feminist reality of the dairy industry.
Thousands of people went from not knowing, to knowing. Once we know better, we can do better!
A VEGAN VICTORY for mother Cows, whom desperately need it.
🧥 100 Fashion Brands Pledge to End Live Lamb Cutting
Live lamb cutting, or mulesing, is where oppressors cut large strips of skin from the hindquarters of lambs between two and twelve weeks old, usually without pain relief.
Australia is only country in the world where live lamb cutting is legally and commonly practiced. Since 80% of the fine merino wool for the global fashion market comes from Australia, 100 fashion brands pledging to end live lamb cutting leaves a big mark on this cruel industry.
Step by step, we’re moving away from exploiting animals for their wool.
📹 Investigation Leads to Suspension of Italian Turkey “Farm”
After the hit documentary “Food for Profit” was broadcast on Italy’s national television, a Rieti, IT, turkey “farming” operation that oppresses up to 43,000 turkeys was fined €12,000 and suspended from operating.
When we hold oppressors accountable at scale, we can spare thousands of turkeys from needless suffering.
A big VEGAN VICTORY for the turkeys!
🐵 After Pressuring NIH, Lab Chimps Relocated to Sanctuary
Some Chimpanzees like Al have been exploited in laboratories for decades. He lived in a lab and was set to die in a lab.
Not anymore.
After a winning lawsuit and thousands of Humane World for Animals supporters demanding the National Institute of Health (NIH) relocate Chimps from Alamogordo Primate Facility—a federally owned laboratory in New Mexico—to a sanctuary, Al and others are finally going home.
Their new home? Chimp Haven: a 200-acre (the world’s largest) forested sanctuary in Louisiana specifically designed to cater to the unique needs of Chimps formerly used in biomedical research.
We’re concluding this month’s VEGAN VICTORIES with this win for Al and 9 other Chimpanzees: a win of hope and peace.
To the 19 new subscribers added to our now 454-strong Vegan team, I’m honored you’ve given me your attention. You could have given it to the animals, and you chose to invest it with me. I take it in the highest regard.
If this month’s newsletter uplifted you, please share it with a friend! It’s a free, 7-second, fun surprise gesture of goodwill that will make them see you as their source of Vegan inspiration. I guarantee you’ll be making their day a little more hopeful and our movement a little more positive. :)
Thank you.
Until every animal is free,
Dani ✊
